Umrah visa, explained

Saudi Arabia's visa process has changed several times in recent years. Here is the current state of play for UK pilgrims.

Types of Umrah visa

  • Umrah visa (traditional): Issued through approved travel agents like Emigre Travel. Valid for the Umrah journey only.
  • Tourist visa (eVisa): 1-year multiple-entry visa that also permits Umrah. Apply online directly.
  • Hajj visa: Separate, quota-controlled visa for Hajj season only.

What you need to apply

  • Passport with 6+ months validity
  • Two recent passport photos (white background)
  • Vaccination certificate where required at time of travel
  • Completed application form (we provide and handle this)

Processing time

Most Umrah visas are issued within 5–10 working days. In peak periods (Ramadan, school holidays) this can extend. We always advise submitting documents 4+ weeks before travel.

What it costs

The current Umrah visa fee is included in every Emigre Travel package - no separate charge. If you book travel components separately, the visa fee is around £100–£150 depending on processing speed.

Women and mahram requirements

Saudi rules have been updated: women aged 18+ may now perform Umrah without a mahram in most cases. We will confirm your eligibility based on your personal details.
